Bold claim: Lothar Matthäus believes Bayern Munich should steer clear of Yan Diomande and instead pursue another Bundesliga talent.
Lothar Matthäus is famous for having opinions—lots of them, all the time. He’s known for delivering takes that run the gamut from spot-on to controversial, and he’s never short of a hot stance when big clubs are in the mix.
When Bayern Munich was linked with RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, the German soccer legend suggested a different target would make more sense. He pointed to Hoffenheim’s Bazoumana Touré as a preferable option, arguing that Touré has demonstrated real potential at TSG and could develop behind a player like Luis Díaz, positioning him for the club’s long-term plans.
Matthäus also advised Bayern to abandon the Diomande pursuit, citing the reported Leipzig negotiation stance: a €100 million offer. He argued that for a player who isn’t yet surpassing Díaz, such a price would be excessive, and Bayern could better allocate that money elsewhere.
